Miraâs plan to wake earlier than sunrise so she could find a computer and research the human against vampire attacks had failed miserably.
When sheâd awoken the next day and gone to open the heavy drapes, sheâd found the sky was already dark.
Once Julian had finished giving her the tour and brought her back to her room, itâd been close to dawn and sheâd crashed soon after. But still, sleeping the whole day away? There was no excuse for it.
Mira had turned her thoughts to Aidan and Hellfire instead. So what if sheâd missed her opportunity to research on the computer? Once Julian rose, theyâd go down to Hellfire, and researching wouldnât even matter.
But then the servant had knocked on her door. Heâd come bearing a dress and a tray loaded with a pasta carbonara and a glass of wine, and before she could complain, heâd gleefully informed her that Julian had requested that she eat and dress for the funeral.
After Mira had taken the dress and meal, sheâd kicked the servant out and lain on her bed and thought about her and Julianâs kiss beside the grotto.
Itâd been nice.
Mira snorted.
Who was she kidding? Itâd been more than nice. Itâd been the best kiss sheâd ever had in her life, not that sheâd had many, since kissing boysâand later, menâhadnât been something Mira had a lot of time for.
No, she had been far too busy working at the bar, saving up every cent she could for her planned trip to Vegas.
It hadnât left a lot of time for dating or kissing or anything else.
If she hadnât been sure about Julian after the first time heâd kissed her in her room, the second one confirmedâmore than confirmedâthat she was attracted to him. And that the attraction went both ways.
Since he hadnât tried to bite her, Mira assumed it wasnât for her blood. Or not only her blood.
But maybe she was wrong. Maybe that was how vampires hunted, by luring their prospective dinner in with heart-stoppingly gorgeous kisses, which turned into a bite on the wild side.
Julian Wakehurst wouldnât be biting her. The second he tried it, he wouldnât know what hit him.
After Mira had thought about the kiss a little longer, she sighed and climbed from the bed. Sheâd quickly eaten her meal and headed for the bathroom to get ready.
At the knock on her door over an hour later, Mira turned from the dresser near the windows. âYes?â
She watched it open, and just before it did, she knew who it would be.
Julian.
In the short time sheâd known him, sheâd grown so used to seeing him all in blackâblack shirt, pants, shades, and shoesâthat sheâd never imagined heâd wear anything else, or what he might look like if he did.
But when he stepped into her borrowed room in a white tailored shirt with the top two buttons undone and black dress pants, her mouth gaped open.
The shirt fit him to perfection, and with his unusual gray and hazel flecked eyes, he looked devastatingly handsome.
